My List of Must-See Attractions in Utah County

Utah County is a place with a lot of things to do and a lot of things to see, ranging from community parks to natural attractions to college museums. That's what I love about this place, is there is always something to do or new to explore. These are places that can be fun to go alone or bring the family. Most of them involve being outside which is why I like most of them, because I enjoy spending a lot of time outdoors. Others are fun for an occasional visit. Below is my list of must-see attractions in Utah County.

Adventure Heights Park

Adventure Heights Park is like them amusement park of community parks. It's free to get in and there are a lot of fun features including a treehouse playground, sensory garden, splashpad, waterfall, and other fun things. The bonus is that it is an all-abilities park, meaning that it was created with everyone in mind, including those in wheelchairs, who use cochlear implants, or are not children.

Bridal Veil Falls

This is a great one if you want to just walk up and see a waterfall without the hike. My son, A, likes to play in the water at the bottom of the waterfall. If you are up for a hike, there is a very steep hike that goes up along the waterfall. Last time my little family went to Bridal Veil Falls, we had a little picnic at the bottom of the waterfall and then waded around in the pool of water at the bottom.

Bicentennial Park

Bicentennial Park is a cute little park with a playground, a disc golf course, a pond, and wooded area around the edge. It's a nature-feeling park so it is relaxing in that sense. I wouldn't say it has the best disc-golf course, but it has the baskets if you are looking to just toss the disc around for fun, especially with young kids.

Fifth Water Hot Springs

Fifth water hot springs involves a hike that is a little more than two miles each way and goes along a river. It has pretty views with lots of sedimentary rock. The hot springs is a part of the river with a few little pools of water. They are a very warm temperature which is perfect for relaxing in. Just above the hot springs a little further is a pretty interesting waterfall that is slightly visible from the hot springs.

Stewart Falls

Stewart Falls is one that you definitely have to do if you like waterfall hikes. It has beautiful scenery and takes you up to a gorgeous waterfall. You can go up to the side of the waterfall, hike down a little bit to the bottom of the waterfall, and hike up to a pooled area in the middle area of the waterfall.

BYU Museum of Paleontology

If you're looking for a free little museum to take your dinosaur-loving kids to, then this is a fun place to go. It is a small museum but has some cool looking dinosaurs in there and plenty of learning opportunities. There is also a big window where you can see students working on fossils.

The Y Trail

The Y trail is a great hike if you are looking to get some exercise in. It is quite steep and just over a mile long each way. It is switchback style with a sign related to the surrounding nature and history of the Y. I like these signs because it gives A some motivation to get to the next switchback, like little rewards to see is what on the next sign. He also loves the binoculars that are just before the Y to look out over the valley. Once you make it up to the Y, it is a beautiful view of the valley. We bring a little breakfast of some sort to eat at the top and enjoy the view. In a few days, A and I are going to hike back up with my brother, W, to watch the sunset and then see the view of the city lights over the valley.

BYU Museum of Peoples and Cultures

This is another small museum and a great opportunity to teach your kids about the history of different cultures, including the history of the area. There is some cool stuff to see including some really old coins from a couple thousands of years ago. There was also a video playing on a little television that A found interesting.

Harvey Park

Harvey Park is fun because it is one of those parks that has a little of everything. There are big fields, basketball hoops, tennis courts, pickleball courts, a splash pad, a playground, and even a little building to buy some ice cream or snow cones at. The play area is space themed so it has space ships and planets incorporated into the playground and splash pad.

South Fork Park

South Fork Park is a nice place if you are looking for a place up the canyon to play and maybe have a picnic. It has a big grassy field, some picnic tables, a little creek, fire pits, and a little trail that winds around. A and I explored the area, read a book, watched the clouds, and kicked around a soccer ball.
