Deciding what to eat can be exhausting, especially when I am trying to stick to healthy foods. One way to save time and energy that would normally go to making these decisions is to do automated eating. Automated eating is when you eat the same predetermined foods each day. I decided to challenge myself to thirty days of automated eating. I try to have a predetermined breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day that remains consistent each day. Sometimes I run out of ingredients or don't have time to make one so I end up using one of the other automated meals as a substitute. So far, I have completed twelve days of the challenge. Below are the automated meals I decided to go with.

Oatmeal with Fresh Fruit

Each morning I have been making myself some oatmeal and topping it with sliced bananas. Not only is it healthy but it is pretty cheap too, so a double win. I usually pick some form of seed to mix in there as well. I flavor it with some honey and vanilla and it tastes great. It's also pretty filling. I had dismissed the idea of eating oatmeal for a long time because it just didn't seem good most mornings as I am not a sweet foods in the morning type of person, but I have found I really enjoy eating oatmeal for breakfast lately.

Oatmeal Banana Pancakes

For lunch, I eat a single oatmeal banana pancake. I top it with honey and peanut butter for extra protein and flavor which makes it complete. In the batter, I put a lot of ground flax seed and add another kind of seed. I would say that they are probably very full of protein and, because of that, they are very filling. One pancake is plenty for me. I do recognize that that makes two meals each day that includes oats and bananas. I actually did that on purpose because my doctor said my cholesterol is slightly high and I know oats are great for lowering cholesterol levels.

Black Bean and Sweet Potato Chili

The black bean and sweet potato chili is really delicious and balances out with the sweeter oat and banana meals. However, it does take more ingredients and time to make so often, if I run out then it takes me longer to restock on ingredients to make it again. When I do make a batch, it makes a lot so it lasts me a while. It's perfect topped with some cilantro and some crushed up tortilla chips. It's a good healthy dinner to look forward to.
