10 Energizing Songs to Add to Your Workout Playlist

I know some people would disagree but for me it is easier for me to workout when I have some good music. It provides me a distraction and sometimes even gives me a burst of energy. I listen to music when I am workout out at home with my son, A, and when I am running. Depending on the song, sometimes I can find meaning in the song that boosts my motivation during the workout. Other times it gives me a little beat to keep up with. Below are songs on my workout playlist.

You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift

I have always loved this song because it reminds me of my younger teenage years when I was in junior high. I had some pretty extreme social anxiety so I can relate to feeling like I would be a good fit with somebody but also feeling completely invisible and not even considered as an option. However, kind of like the music video, I eventually ended up with the guy I had my eyes on only to learn that he had also had a crush on me all along. Now we are married.

I Melt With You by Modern English

This song reminds me of those moments in my life when I am with my husband, C, and I am just present. Not thinking about anything of the past or future, just savoring the moment. Those are my favorite moments. They make me stop and appreciate how grateful I am to have him in my life.

Stayin' Alive by Bee Gees

I love this song. I can't possibly imagine not being happy when this song comes on. Something about the beat just makes me want to dance and smile. As far as my workout goes, it reminds me of my motivation to keep exercising as my purpose is to be healthy so I can live a long active life.

Maniac by Michael Sembello

This song has a good fast beat to keep to. It also reminds me in some ways that women are capable of hard things. For example, the song talks about how this girl is such a good dancer. For me, when I am working out, it reminds me that even though I am tired and it feels like I may not be able to complete it, I can power through what may seem impossible.

Hopelessly Devoted to You by Olivia Newton-John

I don't know what it is about this song, but I like it. There's something about it that makes me relax and just focus on whatever it is that I am doing. Maybe it's that it makes me think of how much no one could ever take the place of C if he were to leave me. It just makes me grateful to be in love with who I'm in love with.

Good Life by Kanye West

I like this song because it puts me in a good mood. It makes me think about all the good things going on in my life and how I am doing my workout and other things in my life to better the lives of me and my family and it doesn't matter what anyone else says about it.

Pegate by Ricky Martin

If I'm being honest, I don't really know what this song is about because it is in Spanish, but I like it because it has a good beat to keep to. The beat is pretty energized and seems happy like it would be played at a party or something so that's what I like to picture when I'm working out.

Ma Baker by Boney M.

Anything from Boney M. seems to have a fun beat to it. A thinks that the intro to this song is hilarious so that's something that is fun to remember when it comes on. I like that the song tells a story that I can picture as I'm working out. It keeps me distracted. It also is one of those songs that reminds me that women are capable of hard things. The song tells the story of a single mother who did what she needed to in order to survive.

Teenage Dream by Katy Perry

This song is one that reminds me of when I was a teenager listening to Katy Perry. She seemed fun and young and like she really understood what it was like to be a rebellious teenager who also spent a lot of time daydreaming about boys. I like this song because it reminds me of all the times when I was a young teenager dancing in front of my mirror.

I'm So Excited by The Pointer Sisters

It's another of those songs with a fast beat to keep to, plus it makes me want to dance. I remember playing this song on Just Dance many times as a teenager. I have a lot of good memories of playing that game so it's fun to think back to those times.
